One of the biggest events that occurs in June every year on the Isle of Wight, is the World Famous Isle of Wight Festival. But if you thought that was pretty much it for June, you’d be wrong.

The Isle of Wight is buzzing with activity in June, and if you’re planning on popping over for one of the events, perhaps you might be able to squeeze in a couple more things to do, whilst you’re here.

Take a look at the list below and plan or extend your break accordingly

Throughout June, we’ll be running a series of Special offers with discounts of up to 20% on a large number of Cottages

2nd June: Old Gaffers Festival – The Old Gaffers festival takes place this year on Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th June, as always in the picturesque harbour town of Yarmouth. There will be around 100 spectacular classic and gaff-rigged boats in the harbour and exciting racing for gaff-rigged boats within sight of the shore. In addition, there will also be lots to do and see onshore.

2nd – 4th: Running Festival - Another major event along the theme of Wellness for the Island is the Festival of Running, which is scheduled to take place from 2nd to 4th June.

3rd – 4th June – Sheep Spectacular at Tapnell Farm - See the Farmer and his trusty sheepdog round up the mini herd of sheep in the Paddocks as they get ready for their annual shearing.
Dave, Daisy and the rest of the sheep gang will be losing their woolly coats to keep cool this summer in a shearing demonstration, and you can also help the keepers hand feed our hungry, little lambs.

4th June – Cowes Big Lunch – This is a free community picnic and celebration for the residents of Cowes and surrounding districts. It is open to all members of the public and is a great family friendly activity. Grab yourself a pint of Pimms (yes, pint), and relax on the lawn at Northwood House and enjoy the live music and stalls. There's plenty of food on offer too!

8th – 11th Isle of Wight Festival (Blog) – If you can’t spare a whole weekend, but still want to check out the festival, you can now buy Day tickets for just the day your favourite acts are playing. The daily line up can be found here -
10th June – Jazz on the Quay - Throughout the late 80’s and 90’s, Jazz on the Quay was an annual event held at Bembridge Harbour, and the organisers are thrilled to be able to bring the event back to life this coming June. This musical extravaganza is being held in support of Ryde Inshore Rescue Independent Lifeboat, which is a very worthy cause and vital for the local community.

14th June – Country Dancing festival at Havenstreet Steam railway - The picturesque rural railway station at Havenstreet provides the perfect arena for Country Dancing as children from Island primary schools take part in a traditional dancing festival. A full service of steam trains will be operating during the festival.

17th June – Mega Summer Quiz – This years quiz takes place in the Marquee at Newclose County Cricket ground, just outside of Newport. The charity quiz opens at 18.30 for food, with the quiz starting an hour later

17th – 18th – Smugglers return at Blackgang Chine - Join Captain Cliff Edge and his first mate of the Flying Black Raven as they host Pirate Plunder.

18th June – Workshop open day Isle of Wight Steam railway – A rare opportunity to get up close and hands on with a working Steam Train – Perfect for train enthusiasts young or old

23rd – 7th july – Festival of the sea - Hop aboard and join the dastardly crew celebrating a whole host of maritime activities spread across June and July. 15 days filled with fun a'plenty ranging from guided coastal walks, sea safaris, shipwreck isle (keep your eyes peeled for Captain Jack Sparrow!) and of course a wide range of delicious seafood sourced straight from our Island harbours.

24th – Challenge the Wight – Run or walk the length of the Isle of Wight (26.5 miles) for this marathon event, which takes place at night! Shorter courses or 12 or 4 miles are available for children

23rd – 25th Yoga Vibe at Ventnor Botanic Gardens - Rise with the sun and join in with our early morning Yoga and Pranayama sessions outside among the trees and spend the evening relaxing around the fire with your fellow Yogi’s, listening to the upbeat sounds of some of the Island’s biggest musical talent
25th – County Show – The ‘County Show’ as its more commonly known is a popular event on the island with locals due to the large rural and agricultural community on the Island. The show is fantastic fun for families and there’s always plenty going on in the main arena area, where visitors are invited to get hands on and ‘come and have a go’.

30th June to 7th July – Ryde Arts festival - Ryde Arts Festival has always been a community based celebration of the talents of the town and wider Island. Previous years have seen towering installations, heard new music and created a life size rag doll family, to name a few.
