August is by far the busiest month for Visitors on the Island, and if you’re worried about finding too many crowds and queues at your favourite attractions, why not try some alternatives:

Carnival time at Robin Hill Country Park
Every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6pm - Throughout the School holidays, there is a carnival procession through the woodland, a band, workshops and a new illusion show, as well as the parks, this is must for all the family!

Blackgang Chine - Big Night Out Fireworks
The Blackgang Chine - Big Night Out Fireworks firework extravaganza taking place every Wednesday during the school holidays. Get ready to enjoy an evening of fun and entertainment -including street performers, magicians, live music, and a BBQ with the musical firework display taking centre stage to bring the merriment to a close.

Music and Magic in the skies - The needles, Alum Bay
Every Thursday in August throughout the day is a themed celebration day which supports different Island charities. Just pay for parking and only the activities you want to enjoy and lots of free entertainment.

Cowes Week This year’s event runs from 29th July - 5th August - This is the longest running and most successful sporting event of the British summer, having evolved enormously from when it first started in 1826 there is now between 800 and 1,000 boats in up to 40 different races every day for 8 days. A week full of music, fun fairs, entertainers, spectacular views and lots more!

Victorian Weekend at The Isle of Wight Steam Railway
On the 5th & 6th August - Step back in time and rediscover a forgotten world of travelling theatre, Victorian maids, music halls and steam train travel. You can arrive in full costume or even hire something on the day and enter the Master & Miss competition.

Ventnor Fringe
Launched in 2010 and now with over 300 artists from around the world, this is one of the fastest growing festivals in the UK. A huge range of music, pop up cinemas, basement bars, mystery tours and far to much more to mention this has to on your list of things to do on the Isle of Wight this summer. The event runs from the 8th to the 13th August.

Pocket Orchestra at Mottistone Gardens
11th August from 6pm - 8pm - Relax in the beautiful gardens on a summers evening and listen to the soothing sounds of Jazz and Blues music.

Compton Sandcastle Competition - 15th August. Meet at Hanover Point, car park at 10:30am - Will you be the last castle standing?

Garlic Festival
19th & 20th August - Located just outside of Newchurch, within the rolling green fields this weekend is packed full of food, music and entertainment for all the family. From cooking demonstrations, bear tents, talented animals, fun fairs and live music to punch and judy and magic tricks. There are also special guest appearances from TV’s favourite Valentine Warner and 2016 finalist of The Great British Bake Off Jane Beedle.
