Visit Alum Bay's famous coloured sand cliffs or take a boat trip to one of Britain's most famous natural landscapes, the Needles. The charming Freshwater Bay is a good starting point for the Tennyson Trail - a dramatic walk along towering cliff-tops, it's a coastal path like no other. And keep your eyes peeled for fossils - Compton Bay's long sandy beach is not only a popular spot for surfing and swimming, but for its fascinating dinosaur walks and world famous dinosaur fossil finds.

Whether you're stepping off the ferry or berthing your yacht, Yarmouth has some excellent shops, and several superb restaurants and pubs. Take time to explore Totland Bay with its pretty beach and short esplanade. To the east of Totland Bay is Colwell Bay, a popular family beach of golden sand with beach huts and water sports.

Brighstone & Brook are pretty villages close to the Military Road, running along the south of the Island, giving easy access to Brook beach, Compton & Freshwater Bays. With its thatch cottages, local church, pub and restaurants Brighstone is a delightful village and a wonderful base for lovers of the countryside.
