Best Farm Shops on the Isle of Wight

With its lush, fertile inland and bountiful coastline, the Isle of Wight is a haven for foodies. There are plenty of ways to indulge in the Island’s produce, from shopping on Isle of Wight market days to tucking into a plate of something special at one of the Island's eateries. But if you’re packing a picnic or want to upgrade your self-catering holiday menu, there’s no better place to uncover the best tastes the Island has to offer than a local farm shop.

Check out our round-up of the best farm shops on the Isle of Wight below and stock up on farm-fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables along with award-winning meat and local milk, cream, and cheese. There are plenty of artisan and specialist items available too - anyone for garlic beer?

The Farm Shop and No.8 Café, Bembridge

A slate sign out the front The Farm Shop and No.8 Café on the Isle of Wight

Nestled on the high street of the bustling village of Bembridge, you’ll find The Farm Shop and No. 8 Café. The shop itself is a wonderland of Island produce and goodies, and once you’re done exploring it all, you can head upstairs to the café where a whole world of homemade goodness awaits.

Think wedges of homemade cake, seasonal soups, and generous toasties. There are also options for all sorts of dietary requirements, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available.

Afterwards, surely a stroll around Bembridge is on the cards as it’s home to an eclectic selection of shops and eateries. Head to Captain Stans Fish Shop for the freshest of seafood, then swing by the aptly named The Bakery, a bustling traditional craft bakery complete with tearoom, for all your baked goods requirements. Do yourself a favour and try a Bembridge bun while you’re here.

And if it’s meat you need to stock up, head to the institute that is W.W. Woodford and Sons - this place has been supplying the good people of Bembridge with the finest meat and game for some 120 years. Talk about a reputation!

Afterwards, head down to Bembridge Beach to walk it all off. It’s one of the best places to scour the shoreline for seaglass on the Isle of Wight

Briddlesford Farm Shop, Wootton Bridge

Boxes full of fresh vegetables at Briddlesford Farm Shop on the Isle of Wight

If you’re looking for a one-stop shop for stocking up on the Island’s homegrown produce, look no further than Briddlesford Farm near Wootton Bridge. Described as “stepping straight into the Island’s very own larder”, you can shop from over 50 local producers. Whatever you do, don’t leave without a pint of milk straight from their own award-winning Guernsey herd. While you’re at it, add some of their luxurious clotted cream and butter into your basket too, both are made onsite in the farm kitchen. It’d be rude not to!

Towards the back of the shop, you’ll find a butcher's, where you can stock up on special Island-reared meat, like the award-winning Briddelsford veal sausage and local favourites like Cheverton Farm beef and lamb, Idlecombe Farm lamb, and Brownrigg poultry. Fancy a night in, but off cooking? Pick up one of their homemade pies or casseroles. Dinner, sorted!

And if you need any expert advice, ask shop manager Louise Griffin. Great granddaughter of the dairy founder Charles Griffen, it’s safe to say she knows a thing or two about the best Island produce. Afterwards, why not pop opposite to Bluebells Cafe - the breakfasts here are legendary. And if you’d like to learn more about the history and life on the farm, book a farm tour.

While you’re in the area, it’s under a mile to Butterfly World, where you can explore some of the world’s most beautiful varieties under one roof. If you like your wildlife cheekier, it’s just over a mile to Monkey Haven, a primate rescue centre. (And if you’re keen to do some monkeying around, check out our guide to Monkey Haven).

Cheverton Farm Butchers, Cheverton Shute

While the Cheverton Farm Shop in Godshill closed its doors last year, you can still shop at Cheverton Farm Butchers for fabulously fresh fare. The family-run farm used to supply supermarkets and restaurant chains, but they decided to change their ways and went on to build their very own maturation centre and butchery to process their own cattle, sheep, pigs and game.

Here the emphasis is on quality, with a supply chain that is transparent, fair, and a slow, nose-to-tail approach when it comes to butchery. They follow time-worn practices, like ageing meat on the bone in their Himalayan salt chamber. The result? Rich, buttery flavours and juicy, tender cuts. So if you’re looking for a quality butcher with locally reared, beautifully finished meat, look no further. Whether you’re looking for the best burgers to barbecue or a roasting joint for your Sunday lunch, you’ll find it here.

If you’re looking for a nearby attraction, head up the road to Mottistone Gardens, a stunning National Trust garden. Keen green thumb or bloom admirer? Check out more of the best gardens on the Isle of Wight

The Garlic Farm Shop, Newchurch

Boxes full of garlic at The Garlic Farm's farm shop on the Isle of Wight

Not strictly a farm shop in the traditional sense, we’re going to give The Garlic Farm Shop a mention anyway because it is somewhat of a local institution. Plus, if you love garlic as much as us, it’s the best kind of shop! Here they grow, source, and make some of the best quality garlic and artisan garlicky products you’ll find, well, anywhere.

We’re talking the entire range of Garlic Farm products, including fresh and smoked garlic, black garlic, pickles, chutneys, ketchups, dressings, butters and sauces - and how about some garlic beer to wash it all down with? As well as all things garlic, you’ll find shelves packed with other delicious goodies from their fellow Island producers and plenty of quirky and original gift ideas too.

Afterwards, why not explore the beautiful farmland? You can even take an audio tour and get a map to help you around. Check out their Highland and Hereford cattle, and keep eyes peeled for goats, chickens, and even red squirrels in their woodland.

If you’re feeling peckish, book a table at The Garlic Farm Restaurant, or alternatively, check out the calendar to see what's on. There’s often live music, opera evenings, workshops and exhibitions to choose from. Or, if you visit at the right time of year, the famous Garlic Festival!

Harvey Browns, Arreton

Beloved Farmer Jack’s renowned farm shop was rehomed and renamed, transforming into Harvey Browns. It now sits in a new custom-built, expanded site a stone's throw from Arreton. The result? An Island foodie extravaganza you do not want to miss!

Set deep in the Island’s gorgeous Arreton Valley, you’ll find this epic build at the heart of a four-generation farm. This toothsome destination is home to an epic, sprawling farm food hall selling some of the Island’s finest local produce and drink. Shop from the extensive deli counter, bakery products, seasonal produce and butchery. There is even frozen food on offer here if you’re looking for an easy meal at home.

Afterwards, why not travel to the quintessential seaside town of Sandown? Renowned for its pier, you’ll also find seaside staples like ice cream kiosks, deckchairs for hire, and arcades aplenty.
